5 Ways To Practice Self-Love

Happy Valentines Day! What better day to share with you some advice on self love?!

Practising self-love is actually a very simple concept that I don’t think was properly wired into our brains. Everyday we put others first and look for acceptance from the people around us but never from ourselves. Self-love is not about being a narcissist or self-absorbed, it’s about our well-being, happiness and being in check with ourselves.

So here are 5 tips to help start off your good, self-loving habits…

1. Eat well and love what you eat

Fuel yourself with nutritious food and your body will thank you. Be intentional about what you put into your body, not because you want to look good, but because you want to feel good too! Try to cut out all the processed foods and stick to healthy proteins, fats and lots of vitamins and minerals. I do allow myself to eat sweet things occasionally, If I ever had to give up chocolate I’d be an extremely sad person!

“Our bodies are our gardens – our wills are our gardeners.” – William Shakespeare

2. Stop comparing yourself to others

We are all humans, we are all unique and we all deal with things differently. We’re all leading different paths and have different goals and achievements that truly shouldn’t be compared to anyone else. Just because so and so bought a house and got married, or so and so went travelling around the world doesn’t make your life or what you’re doing any less valuable. Things happen at our own speed and wonderful things are in store for you too. Let these people inspire you to do great and remember your life is yours and their life is theirs.

“Comparison with myself brings improvement, comparison with others brings discontent.” – Betty Jamie Chung

3. De-clutter your space

Getting rid of old things you no longer use or like is extremely therapeutic. I did this recently by going through my wardrobe and getting rid of clothes I’ll never wear again, getting rid of ornaments and trinkets that collect dust and just having a general de-cluttered living space. My mind is honestly so much clearer now that my space is too. Also keeping things clean is a way of self-love as it’s your space, just for you so make sure its clean and effective.

“Clutter is not just physical stuff. It’s old ideas, Toxic relationships and bad habits. Clutter is anything that doesn’t support your better self” – Elenor Brownn

4. Do what you love

Whether it’s hiking, working out, networking, reading, travelling… If you love it, do more of it! It’s as simple as that, make time for your hobbies and the people that you love and your life will instantly feel rich. If you aren’t doing what you love ask yourself, why? What’s stopping you? Life is too short to ‘not have time’ for the things that truly make us happy.

“In the end… We only regret the chances we didn’t take, the relationships we were afraid to have and the decisions we waited too long to make.” – Lewis Carroll

5. End your toxic relationships

Anyone who doesn’t fully support or care for you is just a waste of your precious self. There are people in life waiting to meet you and fully appreciate you. To them, your friendship is invaluable. If the people (or partner) you have now aren’t pushing you to grow or achieve your goals they’re not on your side. Good friends will support you through it all, they’ll be there when you’re up and especially when you’re down.

“Good friends help you find important things when you have lost them. Your smile, your hope and your courage” – Doe Zantamata

This is an amazing blog Natasha!

I love the positivity in it.

You are so right, we simply aren’t taught how to love ourselves. I have a very hard time of it. Today I’m going to see if I can do little things to love myself.

I came across a little book recently that is a wonderfully simple way of changing those attitudes towards ourselves. It is called ‘Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On it’ by Kamal Ravikant.
I highly recommend it to any of the readers of your blog.

I also love the photo of you. You look as though you really practice this self love thing.

    Thanks 🙂

Totally agree with getting rid of toxic relationships! The thing is, most times you don’t even realize that you’re in them.

I think the first obstacle is always the mindset that self-love is an act of indulgence 🙂 when, as you rightly propose, loving oneself is the cornerstone of achieving a healthy balance xoxo
